Beatrice Update

First thank you all to the e-rabbit community - I don't even know you all and you've come through with great suggestions. Here are pictures of her recovering curled up tight in the recliner away from dog and foot traffic:

She started drinking water by herself mid-day. This is a huge improvement as yesterday I spooned drops into her mouth but most of it dribbled out. She ate raisins on her own (thanks for the suggestion Ilex), but the only other food she has eaten has been that that I've placed in her mouth and she's eaten. That includes her favorite multi grain crackers with black and white sesame seeds and poppy seeds and her specialty feed (the breeder has it made specifically for her rabbitry) melted with fresh made apple juice.

We all survived my giving her an antibiotic injection (did I mention I took her to a cow vet on the holiday? I had to assume the shot went under the skin and not IM).

I can not believe how much I care about this rabbit.

Do you have an exotics vet who can get you some Oxbow Critical Care? It's great that Beatrice is eating something but too much sugar will only cause other problems.

Here's the stuff I'm talking about. See if a vet near you has some: Critical Care

Bunnygirl, we are a bit in the boonies. I didn't see where there were specialty vets but I know there are no specialty (or even small animal) vets in a couple of hundred miles of here.

I've been feeding the crackers and soaked food to avoid too much non-normal food. I know she gets loose stools with too much food interuption.

She started being interested and reaching out for the food tonight. I fed her soaked food from my fingers and we worked out a deal where she'd just scrape my fingers with her teeth and not bite - good as the teeth are proportional to the rabbit.

I don't know anything about rabbits, but I'm glad she is feeling better. Hope she continues on the mend.

I am so glad to hear Ms. Potter (Beatrice Potter) is getting better. Reminds me of my first dog, a chihuahua, who had digestive trouble when we first got him, and his vet- A brilliant young vet who said no to pricey drugs and prescribed Pepe Milk of Magnesia for his digestive problems. He gave up Vet practice to become a research doctor of vet medicine at the U of Washington. He was a fecking genious.

We just heard about Beatrice's problem and had to stop by to say "hi" and see if she is doing better! So glad that she has started eating. She's such a beautiful girl!

Hugger Steward, the great rabbit fancier in this family, was overwhelmed by how beautiful Beatrice is...and we understand completely how much you care and worry for her. So our sadly rabbit less household (we had a Jack Russell terrier for a while, which made it all too complicated..and now HS is at college so it just won't work) sends love and prayers for B's recovery and your peace of mind too.
