A Surprise!

While I went to meetings, Mr. Greenjeans had to stay behind and take care of critters. He cleaned house (we had a high ranking guest returning with me), made a stove pad and Brought The Wood stove inside! We still have to get the stove pipe installed but I couldn't imagine how he was going to get it inside. (He fed pizza to some big guys at work)
This is my birthday/Christmas/ everything present and more! I am so happy with it!

Because it is a stove inside a stove, it can be placed closer to things in the room and has these warming wings for keeping food warm or cooking on.

That rocks! Our house isn't set up for a woodstove (we have fireplaces and I can just hear the Husband when I suggest we block them off!!!!) so I'm always envious when I see one that can be cooked o n.

That's great! I'm jealous you've got your stove in place and ready to set up. Ours (a Hearthstone stove found on Craig's List for $100) is in the garage, all 500 pounds of it, waiting for some repairs and then the decision to bring it in and set it up. And $1000 or so to get it set up!

Lisa, I remember that awesome purchase! Hearthstones were out of our price range (I would have jumped on a $100 one too)!

The stove pipe cost $1000. We'll be paying until new years (and only be done then because of a nice job bonus).

Hubby made the hearth floor because the pre made ones were so expensive.

How neat- I need to add a wood or pellet stove- I have my fake fireplace which works well, but the cans of jellied alcohol is so expensive. Maybe try the sterno type I get at party city!

OOH..I have stove envy. We are SOL without an alternate heat or cooking source right now. Wish us luck at finding a new home.

Congratulations! How nice to come home and find such a surprise.

Expensive but worth every penny.

I feel warmer just looking at it. I can't wait until we are in a house where we can make changes like that. Congratulations!

Verde, it's good you spent the $1000 to get the really good stovepipe/chimney. That's what we plan to do. No sense burning down the house, eh?

What did Mr. Greenjeans use to make the hearth floor? It looks good, and we need cheap too.

Thanks all for your comments,

Meadowlark, we had a fireplace insert in our first house - all your heat goes up the chiminy in a fireplace.

Lisa he bought the brick at Lowes - I suspect it is for patios. It is a solid brick that is about 8"x 2". He made a wooden frame from new hardwood, cut out the carpet, set (and nailed) the frame in and laid the brick inside.

Yes, that is double wall stove pipe - MUCH more expensive than single wall but with the stove able to close to the wall, so must the pipe. It really saves room to not have it so far out in the room. I supose your soapstone will be the same as it never gets super hot to the touch.

Ok, I am quite jealous. :) Yep, this would certainly be an everything present in my book.
Because we rent and the land owner is a former insurance man, he won't allow us to have a wood stove for safety and insurance reasons. Little by little I'm attempting and hoping to alter his thinking. :)

Btw, happy everything!

Very nice! I love the wings. The installation on our wood stove was more than the cost of the stove but most of that was pipe and I don't begrudge it because I never, ever, want to have pipe problems.

its a beautiful stove and those wings are awesome! the top of our wood stove is just plain:)

I have never seen a stove with wings - can I ask the brand name?
A homesteader could cook a tasty meal on a stove like that.

Pelenaka, The stove is an Alderlea T-5. They are made in Canada and come in three sizes - all sizes have the wings. (This one is the middle size). They are also rated as suitable for use in moble or modular homes because the fire box is seperate from the stove's exterior.

Verde,
Thank you for the info I've been stove hunting on & off for a few years now mostly as a looky loo ... hopefully this will be the year we at least get the chimmey installed.
I have an addiction to antique stoves.
